About Pulai
Pulai is a town and federal constituency located in Johor, about 25km or 30 minutes from the Johor Bahru city centre. It encompasses a number of neighbourhoods and small towns. Examples include Kangkar Pulai, Taman Pulai Indah, Taman Pulai Emas, Taman Sri Pulai, Taman Sri Pulai Perdana 1 and Taman Sri Pulai Perdana 2. Some of these neighbourhoods are located on the outskirts of the area. Thus, they are more peaceful, but further away from urban facilities.
The Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM) is about 15 to 20 minutes away from Pulai, depending where one stays. This proximity is a great advantage for residents staying nearby, as well as for student rentals in the adjacent neighbourhoods like Taman Pulai Perdana and Taman Sri Pulai Perdana. UiTM also has its own campus accommodation like Kolej Tun Ghafar Baba and Kolej Dato’ Onn Jaafar in Taman Sri Pulai.
While there are no extremely high-end shopping malls in Pulai, residents will be able to get most basic necessities at the AEON Mall in Taman Universiti and U Mall in Taman Pulai Utama. The latter has a Giant hypermarket, and even an MBO cinema. There is also a country club within Pulai, the Pulai Springs Country Club. It boasts two stellar golf courses with 18 and 9 holes, conceptualised by well-known designers.
From Pulai, it takes about 30 minutes to get to several landmarks – the Senai International Airport, Danga Bay, Sanrio Hello Kitty Town, Legoland Malaysia and the Johor Premium Outlets. As a result, there is potential for homestays in Pulai, especially for family members visiting UiTM students, who would also like to explore their surroundings while they are in the area.
Other than UiTM, there are several other educational facilities in Pulai, such as SK Kangkar Pulai 2, SMK Kangkar Pulai 2, SJK (C) Woon Hwa, SJK (C) Pulai and SK Taman Sri Pulai. It takes slightly longer – about 25 minutes – to get to the nearest medical facility, the Impian Emas Medical Centre, which is in Skudai.
Lebuhraya Skudai-Pontian and the Second Link Expressway run through Pulai, connecting it to other routes and locations like Pontian in the west of Johor, Skudai, the Tuas Checkpoint heading into Singapore, and the North-South Expressway (NSE).
