Tanjung Bungah is a suburb located along the northern coast of Penang Island, near George Town. It is about 6.5 km from the city centre. The beaches here are a popular tourist destination. Just a short drive from here is Gurney Drive, a well-known seafront promenade in George Town.

The name Tanjung Bungah comes from the Malay word ‘Cape Flower.’ This is because the land’s shape that extends into the sea here resembles a flower. Years ago, it was home to a quiet fishing village with a population of Chinese-Malaysians, Malay-Malaysians. Urbanisation began in the 1980s, leading to condominiums, apartments and later on, skyscrapers.

Property here is in demand among the expatriate community. Many of them are retirees who chose to live close to George Town. Hence, the high-rises here mostly cater to the upmarket thanks to foreign demand.

Tanjung Bungah is surrounded by amenities including eateries, schools, shopping malls, banks, and healthcare. There are numerous malls nearby: Gurney Plaza, Gurney Paragon Mall, Precinct 10, Straits Quay Marina Mall, and more. You can also find many water sports recreational places at Penang Water Sports Recreation Centre, Thrill Seeker Sports & Recreation, Water Sports Activities Centre, and Tanjung Bungah Public Beach.

Locals here are friendly and come from a variety of backgrounds. They generally enjoy outdoor activities due to the many available water sport activities here. It is said that there is a good community here and that it is a safe place for residents.

With an abundance of good food, resorts, and recreational places here, Tanjung Bungah offers plenty to keep the locals and tourists excited all year round.
