Masai is a town located in the Masai District, in the eastern region of Johor Bahru. It is said to be one of the earliest towns established in Johor Bahru, and is among the most densely populated in the southern state.

Pre-war shophouses still stand in the town, along with other developments which came about throughout the years. The Masai town is said to have originated from the need to cater to workers who worked the farmlands and rubber plantations in the Masai area, which mostly cropped up back in the early to mid 1900s.

However, as time passed, the workers began settling down in on the peripheries of Masai, raising their families. As such, the growth in population has also prompted more developments, where most were commercial shops and offices to house amenities like convenience stores, mini markets, and banks cater to the people living around the town. Though being the main town in the past, Bandar Seri Alam is now the new business hub for the district, with a range of important amenities like banks being in the area.

Nonetheless, amenities around Masai town are still aplenty, with some of them being a post office, police station, market and a bus terminal as well as taxi stand. Schools are also aplenty in the Masai District, with the Masai Chinese Primary School being one the largest, with over 5,000 students. Medical facilities is also available, with the Klinik Kesihatan Masai and the Regency Specialist Hospital nearby.

Accessibility wise, Jalan Masai Lama used to be the road which connected the Masai town to Taman Molek in Johor Bahru. These days, the Pasir Gudang Highway links the town to Johor Bahru as well as other areas further west of JB.
