Johor Bahru is southern Malaysia’s main commercial centre, connected to Singapore via the Johor-Singapore Causeway, and is well known for its theme parks and outlet shopping.

Johor Bahru (often referred to by its initials ‘JB’ or Johor Baru) is the capital of the state of Johor, located on the southern tip of Malaysia. Founded in 1855, it was declared a city in 1994.

With it’s location just across from Singapore and connected via the Johor-Singapore Causeway, many Malaysian parents send their children to school across the border daily, while many Singaporeans choose to buy a house in Malaysia and live in the country whilst maintaining their citizenship. Property in Johor Bahru is far more affordable than property in the land-starved country of Singapore.

Getting to Singapore from Johor Bahru and vice versa is very convenient via land transport, although massive traffic congestion is an everyday occurrence. There are two access points in and out of either country, the Causeway and the newer bridge that is known as the Second Link. The 2.4km causeway also serves as a water exchangeway, for the 2 countries, and is one of the busiest exchangeways in the world.

With the development of Iskandar Malaysia, JB has gained its place on the map for international standard developments such as Pinewood Malaysia, Legoland and the Iskandar Malaysia Educity. It is also home to 9 theme parks and over 15 hospitals and healthcare facilities.

The rapid development in the last few years pre-Covid means that there is abundance of choice for home-hunters. You can choose from apartments, luxury high rises, townhouses, gated communities and more. Many dwellers report that they are able to commute to Singapore on a daily basis in under an hour.
