In August 2021, Sime Darby Property Berhad (“Sime Darby Property” or “Company”) partnered with Malaysian Institute of Architects (“Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia” or “PAM”) to organise the Concept Home 2030 Competition (“CH2030 Competition”) that challenged the nation’s visionaries in the built realm to overhaul the run-of-the-mill terrace home design.

Get ready to see terrace homes like you have never seen them before. Malaysia’s innovative architects have taken up the challenge to reinvent the quintessential terrace home design and reimagine the way we could live in the future.

The Company is proud to announce the official closing of the first chapter of CH2030 Competition which received 171 registered participants, the highest number of registrants in the history of PAM’s competitions. A total of 10 registrants have been shortlisted to move into the next stage namely: Area Architects Sdn Bhd; Arkitek Oma Sdn Bhd & Shah Architect (AOMASA); Arkitek Seni Kenyalang Sdn Bhd; B.F.K/Chaw Boon Kit; Cheong Gin Yong Architect; Cipta Teguh Architects Sdn Bhd; Min Wee Architect; Qhawarizmi Architect; Re DESIGN/Boon Zi Yang and Veritas Architects Sdn Bhd.

The Top 10 finalists participated in a recent workshop with industry experts which aimed to bridge the gap between architecture and design, as well as familiarise with the four pillars of CH2030, namely Sustainable Solutions, Modern Methods of Construction, Tech-Infused: A Home Brain, and Modular Expandable & Customisable.

Sime Darby Property Group Managing Director, Dato’ Azmir Merican said that the competition is an excellent platform to showcase the participants’ imaginative ideas and problem-solving skills that will continue the evolution of homes in Malaysia.

“The pandemic has made us rethink various aspects of our lives and shift our view on how homes should be designed in the future. When we embarked on this competition, we called upon professional architects to participate in revolutionising the way forward for future living, and judging by the entries, I trust that we can influence the value chain and benefit the industry through collaborations and engagements. We envision future homes to be designed with technology at its core and featuring versatile space that will be built with modern methods of construction and sustainable materials, as well as harmonised with sustainable living features in modern and circular townships”, he said.

PAM President, Datuk Ar. Ezumi Harzani bin Ismail said, “We are happy to receive the submissions which challenged conventional design approach and pushed various ideation aspects with innovative and progressive ideas. We anticipate the finalists to push the boundaries with new inspirational ideas of creative applications of smart technologies, modern materials and construction methods, to create conducive sustainable future living environment in the terrace home and community.”

The CH2030 Competition is currently in Phase 2 during which the finalists will have to prepare their presentation to best showcase the concept after the workshop with industry experts for the final submission. The competition also features a ‘People’s Choice Award’ where the public can now vote for their favourite submission(s) at concepthome2030.simedarbyproperty.com. Winners of the competition will be announced during a live event on 22 January 2022.
