Berjaya Land (BLand) aims to begin launching luxury residences and villas on the island of Okinawa by the third quarter of the year 2020, according to its Chief Executive Officer Syed Ali Shahul Hameed.

The developments on the island will include a Four Seasons Resort and Private Residences, which the construction of said developments are slated to begin in June 2020. The Private Residences will comprise a total of 122 private residences and 28 villas. Built on land that was purchased by Berjaya Land in 2009, this will be the first phase of the 100-acre beach fronting land.

According to Syed, the first phase is targeted for completion in the year 2023, and will take up 33 acres. The estimated total cost of development is set at USD400 million.

In an interview with NST Property, Syed stated that earthworks are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2020, following which the launching of the residences and villas will be held in the third quarter. The homes are expected to be the most luxurious in Japan, with the Four Seasons Resort and Private Residences setting the benchmark as the most iconic development.

The development is expected to be as successful as Berjaya Group’s first Four Seasons Hotel and Hotel Residences development in Kyoto, which was launched in December 2016.

The agreement with the management of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts for the Okinawa development was inked on the 17th of January this year.

Located about 50 kilometers north of the Naha International Airport, Syed is confident that the development will be successful. This is following the announcement of Air Asia’s new route, where they will begin flying to Okinawa beginning 22nd January 2020.

Said Syed, "Air Asia will fly to Okinawa starting January 22, 2020. This is a plus point for our development as we are targeting the Malaysian market. We are also targeting the Japanese market. Okinawa is Hawaii for the Japanese.”

Tan Sri Vincent Tan, Founder of Berjaya Corp and Executive Chairman, stated during the signing of the agreement that the Four Seasons Resort and Private Residences will be the most expensive, yet valuable and beautiful property in Okinawa.

Executive Vice President and Global Business Development of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, Bart Carnahan, is also confident that their partnership with Berjaya will create the finest resort and private homes of the highest quality that come with unparalleled service, synonymous with the Four Seasons brand name globally.

The masterplan and landscape architecture for the Four Seasons Resort and Private Residences is being undertaken by ESDA Inc, an international landscape architecture and urban design firm. Top Japan architects, Kengo Kuma and Kuniken, will also serve as joint architects for the project.

Plans for the remaining 70 acres are still underway, but prospective buyers can expect many more luxury homes.
