Staying at home for the better part of 2021 has been a challenging time for most families here in Malaysia. As we grow as a community to adapt to the social situation, we might have an itch for fun outdoor activities. With Malaysia’s Government announcing relaxed standard operational procedures for Phase 2 states, we will slowly be introduced to the life we once knew with fresher eyes. Many have planned their travels and some just want to jog outside with no worries. We put together a checklist of outdoor activities you can do when you are fully vaccinated in Phase 2 states. We are excited as you are!

1. Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis and Skateboarding

With Netflix and YouTube helping us experience the outdoors in proxy, inspiration is at its highest. There’s nothing like stepping onto a court and experiencing the rush of competitive sports. The announcement was made that singles badminton, tennis and table tennis will be allowed as well as skateboarding. You can enjoy rebuilding your skills in these sports competitively or enjoy casual games with your loved ones.

2. Jogging and Hiking

Did you buy that treadmill? Clear your mind and enjoy some fresh air when you jog or hike at your favourite parks and trails. It is necessary to keep your distance from the people around you so be wary of the SOPs. Jogging and hiking are not only good for stretching those MCO muscles but also great for stretching your mind out of cabin fever. We have put together a comprehensive guide for hiking trails that comes out next week so do follow us on Instagram for updates!

3. Golf

During the first MCO, it was a shock to netizens to find out that someone was caught playing golf whilst everyone stuck to the strict lockdown. In Phase 2, the fully vaccinated public can now enjoy a game (or two, three.. ten) of golf in open golf courses. To many, golf was a lifestyle and the restrictions took a toll on the avid golfer. Fill the hole in your heart with a hole-in-one. The upkeep and maintenance of a golf course is an expensive one, so do support your local clubhouse when you can.

4. Fishing

Still concerned about safety? You can enjoy fishing all on your own (or with your family) in the great outdoors. Parks and recreational facilities are slowly opening up to the public. This is restricted to the state you live in. Although, the joy of the potential size of your first catch in months is incredibly exciting. For a great date idea, facilities for prawn fishing in your local area will be allowed to open as well. Show your date who’s boss when you handle the bait.

5. Cycling

The data shows that the rise in viewership of sports videos online has increased. Along with dedicated sports series that have taken the world by storm. Whether you are part of the sports fan base or you just want to ride away from your problems, cycling will be allowed. Although interdistrict travelling is still restricted unless granted by authorities, you can ride as far away as your state allows you to.

6. Picnics

Worried about eating out? That is a logical concern as the health ministry has advised us to be wary of eating out. Have a picnic instead! Public parks are open to the public where you can enjoy a picnic and some time in the sun. Do watch out for the monkeys, and monkeys who don’t wear their masks. Some waterfall destinations are also open.

7. Camping

Speaking of waterfalls, camping will be allowed as well. Although there is no clear guideline on what is allowed while camping, it is said that each public camping site will have clear SOPs for those who would like to enjoy this activity. Enjoy a weekend offline completely when you camp in our incredible rainforests.

Do note that the finer details of all sports and recreational activities have not been announced. However, the mentioned activities are allowed from 6AM to 10PM. Safety concerns are also carried by many of the public so we do suggest keeping in your neighbourhood and enjoying the facilities and public parks that are within your community. As we all slowly reintroduce ourselves to the neighbourhood, there is no better time to build your community than now. If you are looking to relocate to a quieter place with access to public parks and recreational facilities, check out these links for our suggested neighbourhoods:
