1. Desa ParkCity

Desa ParkCity is a residential area north-west of the city centre which offers a gentle 2.2km loop around a picturesque lake. It allows you to do both – slow down or speed up. Chill out on its manicured lawns and have a family picnic; a brief respite from the work week rush. Or else you can get your heart racing by hitting its jogging paths with sprightly vigor.

With the idyllic Central Lake at its core, it truly represents an ideal getaway from the tribulations of the city life. You can take a leisurely walk and enjoy the great outdoors with its captivating vistas. It is also a path to healthiness whereby there are 9-foot-wide jogging paths surrounding the lake. Those living in neighborhoods nearby i.e. Bandar Menjalara and Bandar Sri Damansara may find it convenient to reach here.

It is truly a paradise for joggers, strollers, kids and adults alike. It also features a picturesque lake, a children’s playground complete with childproof play equipments, park benches, rest areas and a man-made stream to complete the whole relaxing experience.



2. KLCC Park

Who doesn’t know KLCC Park? It is a 50-acre garden set close to Suria KLCC shopping centre which was designed by Roberto Burle Marx. It was designed to provide a touch of greenery for the Petronas Twin Towers and the areas surrounding it.

Apart from that, it has a 10,000 sqm man-made lake named Lake Symphony with a 43m bridge that cuts across it. Unquestionably, Lake Symphony is the main reason that most people visit to the park because it has water fountains that can shoot water up to a height of 42m.

It also features a 1.3km jogging track covered with “EPDM”. This special surface increases the grip of your soles and ensures a comfortable run. Other than that, KLCC Park has over 1,900 indigenous trees from 74 species; 40 of these trees were transplanted from the former Selangor Turf Club racecourse, which lies to the southeast of the city. 3. Perdana Botanical Garden

The Perdana Botanical Garden, formerly was known as Taman Tasik Perdana or Lake Gardens, is situated in the Heritage Park of Kuala Lumpur. It has always been a part of the green lung of the city and has a history of over a decade. Originally created as part of a recreational park, but now it’s planted with collections of tropical plants, the garden have been rehabilitated and turned into a Botanical Garden. You will definitely fall in love with this place if you are a super flower lover!

4. Bukit Kiara Park

Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) is not only known for its expensive properties, but it also has a great recreational park called Bukit Kiara Park. It is a popular urban park among families, walkers and joggers due to its close proximity to several residential communities.

Its main feature is a large lake surrounded by jogging tracks, exercise stations, children’s playgrounds and picnic spots. The Bukit Kiara Park and its surrounding hills not only provide a great place to exercise, it’s also a place for children to play, families to gather and neighbors to meet. Stressed-out city folks and nature lovers can enjoy a peaceful retreat here.

Aside from enjoying a good workout at the park, its tranquil and pleasant setting is home to many wild plants, birds, monkeys and other animals. Whether one is a walker, jogger, cyclist or hiker, one is assured of a challenging workout amidst a clean and safe environment. The 5km jogging trail is quite stamina-demanding, if not overly tough. The hill trail requires some effort and determination to reach the top which is approximately 250m above sea level. On the way up, don’t forget to enjoy the green scenery.



5. FRIM (Forest Research Institute Malaysia)

FRIM or Forest Research Institute of Malaysia is a must visit for nature lovers who are in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. It is located in the suburb city of Kepong. This 600-hectare tropical forest contains a wealth of flora and fauna with approximately 15,000 species of plants, though for a layman in botanic, all of them look like greenery.

As you enter FRIM, you will be amazed by the arboretums or living museum of trees. Walk through the many nature trails and discover the many species of flora and fauna here. There are a few nature trails that you can explore. The popular ones are the Keruing Trail and the Salleh Nature Trail. Of particular interest is the park's canopy walkway, which is now closed until further notice. Other activities that you can do include camping, family and team building activities, picnic near the waterfall and jogging that will enable you to escape from the outside world for a moment.



6. Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA)

Taman Botani Negara Shah Alam (TBNSA) is an area of forests combined with plantations and botanical gardens that lie towards the north of Shah Alam city. The place also goes by the name of Bukit Cahaya Sri Alam, while the forest reserves itself is named as Bukit Cerakah Forest Reserve. There are many gardens in this park, among which are the Animal Park, Spice Garden, Ornamental Garden, Orchid Garden, Cactus Garden, Bamboo Garden and Mushroom Garden. Bicycles are available for rent at the park. Meanwhile, the free bus service is provided to ferry visitors to various spots within the park.

If you like fishing, there are lakes within the park that you can fish for a fee of RM2 per fishing rod. The best way to enjoy this park is by renting a bicycle or taking a slow walk to explore the natural beauty of this place. Swimming pool is also available for you to use in the event that you want to cool yourself after a long day's walk. The main attractions seem to be bicycle riding, paintball and other outdoor activities like flying fox.

For nature’s lover, hiking up Bukit Sapu Tangan (Handkerchief Hill) can be a rewarding experience in spite of the steep climb. The hill stands 200-plus meters above sea level in an otherwise undulating landscape and offers nice panoramic views over Shah Alam, and the Klang Valley.



7. Putrajaya Botanical Garden

Putrajaya Botanical Garden is a must see attraction if you are visiting the beautiful city of Putrajaya. There are eight major parks in the city which is sometimes referred to as a 'City in the Garden'. A central feature to the city is a man-made 650 hectare lake whose tentacles extend into wetland zones, boating and watersports areas. The lake is designed to cool down the city as well as help with flood control and water purification.

Spanning these stretches of water are some spectacular bridges which are illuminated with changing colored lights at night. Adding to this are a number of grand government buildings, mosques, palaces and monuments, creating a visually appealing cityscape. Other attractions include cycling, boating, an interactive exhibition and a tram ride for which separate fees apply. There’re a lot of running tracks that await you all around the lake and through the heart of Putrajaya.

You should plan to have a picnic, cycling, jogging or some water sports with your family and friends during the weekends. Not to be missed are the Canna Walk, Fern Garden, Floral Steps, African Collection, Tropical America Collection, Hibiscus Walk, Bougainvillea Tunnel, Pandanus Walk, Orchid Path, Palm Hill, Vine Garden and Heliconia Trail whereby you will have the chance to enjoy all the nice scenery altogether.
