About Setapak

Properties for Sale in Setapak

Setapak brings to mind a bustling mature neighbourhood with a juxtaposition of old and new. In this case, older houses and shop lots are flanked by modern high rise apartment blocks and shopping malls. Its geographical location also means that you can be in a mature suburb, whilst only 8km to KLCC. A best of both worlds, some might say.

The name Setapak comes from the name of the headman of the aborigines who first inhabited the area. Once a tin-mining and rubber plantation, Wangsa Maju was the first of the “modernisation pockets” in the early 1980s. Today, Setapak has attracted many property developers to contribute to its growth. Some of the developers with projects in the area are the Sunway group, Mah Sing, Platinum Victory, Beneton, Beverly Group and more. Given its proximity to the city centre, it remains an attractive address with an affordable price tag.

Property investors are attracted to developments in Setapak, as the rental market is active with the high student population enrolled in the many learning institutions in the area. The well established Tunku Abdul Rahman College University has a student population of more than 28,000 , and is one of the many in the area.

Setapak is well connected to the other parts of the city via highways like MRR2 and the DUKE, and also the LRT system (having 3 stations in the area).

Setapak and its surrounding areas feature a few attractions and activities, for instance, the P. Ramlee Memorial which is located in Taman P. Ramlee (previously known as Taman Forlong), the Ayer Panas Hot Springs, as well as the Yayasan Seni Art Gallery and Cultural Craft Complex. The Royal Selangor Pewter visitor centre also has a showroom and factory in the area.

As expected for an established suburb, Setapak has built its collection of shopping malls to serve the local population. The locals will tell you that Setapak is a food haven of sorts, with something to appeal to everyone and catering to all budgets. There are restaurants which have been handed down over the years, to bubble tea places and even a sous-vide restaurant known for their quality meat.
