About Petaling Jaya

Properties for Rent in Petaling Jaya

Petaling Jaya, more commonly known as “PJ”, is a massive city that sprawls over a wide area of Selangor. It is the first ever planned town in Malaysia and its population has grown dramatically over the years. The area now hosts enticing hotspots including Jump Street Asia, the largest trampoline park in Asia.

The city’s development began in 1952 within the area now known as “Old Town.” It was where the first 800 houses were built. PJ was initially developed as the satellite township for Kuala Lumpur and was only declared as a city in June 2006. The city’s current property market is a force to be reckoned with as most developers will compete over any available land here. Even Fraser and Neave (F&N), a multinational F&B company, has demolished their own factory on their land in Section 13 and plans to build a mixed development there.

Many people with status and wealth live in PJ including Datos, Tan Sris and millionaires. Besides that, some areas also cater to the lower income with low cost flats and single story terrace houses. These are mainly tenanted by Malays or university students.

If you are looking to indulge in a vibrant city life, there are tons of eateries and entertainment options to explore here. PJ is surrounded by famous malls such as One Utama, Paradigm Mall, The Curve, Ikea, IPC Shopping Centre, The Starling, Jaya One, Sunway Pyramid and Empire Damansara. The city is also home to tourist attractions such as the Petaling Jaya Museum and the Wat Chetawan temple.

With great popularity comes great traffic congestion. Many parts of the city have busy roads during peak hours due to crowds of people travelling in and out. Thankfully, the upcoming LRT 3 that is expected to launch in 2024 should help to ease the journey for everyone in the future. The main highways connecting PJ to other areas are the Federal Highway, Sprint Expressway, New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Damansara-Puchong Expressway (LDP).

PJ caters to a wide range of demographics. Whether you are a family, student or working professional, you will find something that suits your needs through a large variety of houses and nearby amenities.
