Jalan Burma is a rather long stretch of road located in Georgetown, Penang. It runs parallel to Jalan Kelawai and Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah as well as Gurney Drive on the northeastern part of the island. Jalan Burma begins close to the intersection of Jalan Penang and Jalan Dr. Lim Chwee Leong and ends at the meeting point of Jalan Gottlieb, Jalan Bagan Jermal and Jalan Mount Erskine.
Properties along Jalan Burma are varied and aplenty, with most being commercial shop lots. There are several blocks of pre-war double-storey shophouses which are now entirely used for commercial purposes. Residential neighbourhoods along the road consist of double-storey terrace homes built some time in the 20th century. There are also commercial double-storey lots which appear to have been built around the same time.
Jalan Burma is a heavily travelled road. Given the traffic that passes through it and a part of it, (the part closer to Jalan Penang) is close to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Buffer Zone, there are innumerable hotels, cafes, restaurants, hawker centres which have mushroomed along the busy road.
Hence, other amenities are also aplenty along this popular stretch of road, such as a bank, clinics, a bakery, and several schools like the Convent Pulau Tikus, Union Primary School and Kolej PTPTL. Shopping malls like the Midlands One Stop and Penang Plaza are also located along Jalan Burma.
Given its location, properties along Jalan Burma are on the market at beginning prices of around RM850,000 while rental is also on the higher end at a minimum of RM2,500 per month. Commercial lots would be a better investment given the demand for these lots, as demonstrated by the mostly occupied shop lots along the road.
