Melawati is a peaceful town with mostly residential developments located just 20 minutes from the Kuala Lumpur city centre, administered by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ). The town is surrounded by lush greenery and hills, resulting in it being dubbed the “Hollywood of Malaysia” because it is home to many local celebrities and politicians.
Public amenities and township facilities are strategically located within the Melawati neighbourhood, while found within distance are the National Zoo, and several shopping centres. Additionally, one of the hills in this town is a popular hiking spot while the main entrance of the Klang Gates Dam is also located in one of the hills in the town.
In terms of public transportation, the town is accessible via RapidKL buses U20 and U23 from the Titiwangsa LRT station, RapidKL bus T304 from the Sri Rampai LRT station, and Len Seng bus 191 from Masjid Jamek.
As the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) is one of the major highways leading into Melawati, traffic becomes a problem to many road users especially during peak hours. It is unavoidable as this highway connects to many neighbourhoods near the boundary of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. However, motorists can use the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway to avoid traffic jams and conveniently enter or exit the town.
In June 2010, the residents of Melawati were advised to set up their own patrol scheme to help curb rampant petty crimes committed in their area. As a result, three years later, the crime rate went down by 14 percent.
