About Senai

Senai is a town in Johor, located about 20km from the Johor Bahru city centre and 30km from the gateway into Singapore, the Woodlands Checkpoint. Named after a local tree, today the town is most known for the Senai International Airport (previously called the Sultan Ismail International Airport). Built in 1974, it is now the main airport in southern Peninsular Malaysia.

The Senai area is also the meeting point of several important routes, such as the North-South Expressway (NSE), Malaysia – Singapore Second Link, Second Link Expressway and Federal Route 1. It is also where the Senai-Desaru Expressay (SDE) terminates.

Senai is part of the Flagship E development zone in Iskandar Malaysia. Other landmarks within this zone include the Senai Aerospace Park, a large area of land used for aviation facilities and activities like aircraft hangers and offices, the fashion shopping centre of Johor Premium Outlets, Senai Airport City, an integrated development that incorporates a free zone, industrial precinct and residential park, and a Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UiTM) campus.

Residents of Senai, however, most likely need to have their own transport to get around the town, as there are no public local buses in the area, and the nearest train stations to the Senai are the KTM Kempas Baru and KTM Kulai, located about 10 to 15km from the Senai town centre.

Developments in Senai include residential neighbourhoods like Taman Aman, Taman Senai Utama, Taman Senai Jaya and Taman Impian Senai. There is also the 221.9-acre Taman Perindustrian Murni Senai, which comprises industrial land parcels as well as semi-detached and linked factory units.

As Senai is a matured town, residents will have no problem finding basic amenities like an Econsave supermarket, eateries, convenience stores, petrol stations, a mosque, police station and clinic. There are many educational institutions to choose from, for example the Seri Omega Private and International School, SK Senai Utama and SMK Senai.

And for recreation, there is the Palm Resort & Golf Club, which features three award-winning 18-hole golf courses, in addition to its well-equipped clubhouse. Residents will also have easy access to facilities in neighbouring towns, such as the IOI Mall in Bandar Putra, AEON Mall in Bandar Indahpura, and the Impian Emas Medical Centre in Taman Impian Emas.
