Betong Division, formed on 26 March 2002, is one of the twelve administrative divisions in Sarawak, Malaysia. Formerly part of Sri Aman Division, Betong is in the Saribas area. It has a total area of 4,180.8 square kilometres, and is the smallest of the administrative divisions of Sarawak.

Saribas is famous for its Iban longhouses and is regarded as the center for Iban culture. It was annexed to Sarawak by Rajah James Brooke, after his victory over the Sekrang and Saribas Iban at the Battle of Beting Maru on 31 July 1849.

Betong Division contains two administrative districts: Betong and Saratok. The total population is 99,800. The population is culturally mixed, with the majority Iban interacting well with the Malay and Chinese in almost all spheres of activity since the pre-colonial days.

In Sarawak, Betong has the most administrative sub-districts. The sub-districts under Betong district are Pusa, Spaoh, Debak and Meludam, while those under Saratok district are Roban, Kabong and Budu.

Consumer Price Index

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) line shows an increment in prices of essential goods on a yearly basis, while the Percentage Changes line shows the level of changes in price increments over the years. For example, a dip in the CPI line may indicate a low level of price increment as compared to the previous year while a surge in CPI line shows a high level of price increment as compared to the previous year.

The above graph shows 1.754% of price changes in essential goods such as rice, meat and tobacco between the years 2011 and 2012, while increasing in difference to 1.916% in 2013. Prices of essential goods then increasing to 2.82% in the year 2014 while surging by 1.554% in 2015.

While the prices of essential goods have shown a variation in the Percentage Changes, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on the other hand indicates a reality of ever increasing prices in essential goods with increments between the years 2011 - 2015 at 102.7 in 2011, 104.4 in 2012, 106.4 in 2013, 109.4 in 2014, 111.1 in 2015.
