Lebuh Chulia, also known as Chulia Street is a major road in Georgetown, Penang. Stretching from Beach Street to Jalan Penang, part of it is in the UNESCO World Heritage Site core zone while the remaining part is in the buffer zone. The street is lined with double-storey and 3-storey pre-war shophouses which have been repurposed into commercial shop offices while other 2-storey and 4-storey shop offices were also built later in the mid to late 20th century. There are also a few single-storey shop-lots which house coffee shops. Lebuh Chulia is home to a number of restaurants and eateries, confectionary shops as well as businesses which have been around for quite some time. With the rising popularity of Georgetown as a tourist destination, many of the pre-war shops have also been turned into hotels, lodgings, bars and cafes to cater to modern tastes. Prices of pre-war buildings have shot up in the recent years since Georgetown obtained its status as a “World Heritage Site”.
