Southbay City is an ambitious, multi-billion ringgit integrated township development within the prime location of Batu Maung, Penang. Covering an expansive area of more than 34.5 acres, the township aims to bring the concept of living, working and relaxing within a sea-side enclave amidst a lively, urban setting. Winner of the 2010 Cityscape Asia Real Estate Award for Best Waterfront Development (Future), the architectural and town-planning marvel had drawn inspiration from the Sydney Harbour in Australia, Canary Wharf in London and Spanish resorts dotting the Mediterranean sea. The township comprises of several residential and commercial projects, namely Southbay City, Legenda @ Southbay and Residence @ Southbay, which will be completed by phases. Southbay Plaza makes up the first phase of the development, with sea-front retail shops and residential suites. Retail shop-lots are available in a variety of sizes ranging from a spacious 1,200 sf to a whopping 14,000 sf while residential suites are set to be sold at comfortable sizes of between 1,028 sf to 1,645 sf. In all, Southbay City aims to encompass an impressive collection of landed properties, 1 high-rise corporate office tower, 2 hotel towers, 5 blocks of shop-offices, and 9 towers of serviced suites. There is also a Cheng Hoe memorial Hall and a petrol station, proposed to be included within the township. Southbay City will enjoy convenient accessibility to other parts of Penang via the Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu Expressway and Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, making Georgetown a short 25 minutes drive from the development and just minutes from Bayan Lepas and the second Penang bridge. Southbay City is set to bring urban luxury to the region of Batu Maung, where most developments have been lower-medium to medium cost residences aimed at the working community.
